Ogni anno, su richiesta di un gruppo proponente, AISV organizza una scuola estiva o una scuola professionalizzante su tematiche inerenti la voce nel suo complesso.

AISV - STELARIS (late)Summer School 2011, September 25^th-30^th

Software Tools and Methods for Advanced Research in Phonetics

The next AISV summer school, organised by AISV in collaboration with the Stelaris network, will take place at S. Marco di Castellabate (Salerno, Italy) on September 25th-30th 2011.

The school is spanned over a week (arrival on site Sunday 25th September evening, starting Monday 26th morning ending Friday 30th lunch time).

The maximum number of participants will be fixed at 30 (min to guarantee the budget 22). They will pay a fixed fee (600 €) inclusive of lodging, meals and scientific activities.

Practical sessions will be defined by the teaching staff and offered thanks to the support of a group of skilled PhD students.

Students will be asked to come with their own laptop, internet access will be guaranteed during the school.

Lecturers will guarantee the longer permanence they can.

Literary and Linguistics Studies PhD School of the University of Salerno will certify the School and assign credits, AISV will give scientific and administrative support.

Students will stay in double or triple rooms, the use of rooms as single will be possible but charged apart (+75€).

WiFi Internet will be available in the lounge and in the school areas, but not in the rooms.

Themes:

1. Advanced use of Tools for Phonetic Research
2. Scripting and/or complex procedures
3. Perceptual experiments, methods and tools
4. Data Modeling, querying and Information Retrieval
5. Methodology clinics: small groups discuss students' own research questions
6. Annotation, Labeling, Descriptive Systems

Lessons:

• 24 hrs of theory to be divided according to above listed themes
• 6 hrs practice, teachers supported by three Italian PhD students

Venue

The school will take place at the Hotel L’Approdo, S. Marco di Castellabate in the Campanian area named Cilento, a few km from Paestum.

Students will stay in double or triple rooms, the use of rooms as single will be possible but charged apart (+75€). WiFi Internet will be available in the lounge and in the school areas, but not in the rooms.

Arrival

Students will arrive in Naples on Sunday the 25th. A bus transfer will pick up students at the International Airport (at 17:00) and at the Central Railway Station of Naples (at 17:30) and bring them to the school venue.

Departure

Notice that no bus will be provided for the way back at the end of the school: we will arrange car transfers from S. Marco to Agropoli, the closest train station. The train timetable can be checked here: http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.html

The trip from Agropoli to Naples Central Railway Station takes from 70 to 90 min according to the class of the chosen train. Meals

During the summer school, lunches and dinner will consist mainly of fish. Please inform the organizers if you have alimentary needs we should be aware of. Sunday dinner and Friday luch are included.

Electricity & Plugs

Electricity in Italy is 230 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you travel to Italy with a device that does not accept 230 Volts at 50 Hertz, you will need a voltage converter.

Italy uses a type L plug (see following pictures).

Tips

The school takes place in a sea location: do not forget swimsuit and related accessories. Dressing will be informal in any occasion.
